The Garden and Art Tour begins!

One of my favorite Daniel Island events begins today. I encourage you to come out and tour these wonderful homes and gardens.

A street of newly constructed upscale custom homes in Smythe Park will serve as a canvas to showcase modern day interpretations of the lifestyle and cultural aspects for which historic Charleston is renowned.

Artwork from six local art galleries, selected with the help of the Gibbes Museum of Art, will be on display in each of the newly-constructed homes. Also on display during the Tour will be innovative landscape and garden designs, coupled with exciting exterior architectural concepts. And on May 19th, come on out for the finale where fireworks and the Charlston Symphony will be featured. It's a blast!

Two of my favorite Daniel Island restaurant dishes

Dining out on Daniel Island is always a fun excursion. One is almost always going to see a neighbor or a friend as everyone supports the local restaurants. Two of my favorite restaurants are Dragon Palace and Sienna. Quality and consistency are the hallmarks of these two very different establishments.

The treviso salad at Sienna is a favorite of mine and I order it everytime I go there. It has fried grapes and a gorgonzola gelato that melts over the greens. It sounds odd but I absolutely love it! It's perfect to share but my husband can finish one with ease all by himself. Try it and let me know what you think!

And when you go to Dragon Palace, try the scallops with fruit and sizzling rice. The flavors of this dish pair very well with a Gewurztraminer and makes for a great spring dish. This Chinese restaurant is a real treat to have on the island and pays attention to detail and is always busy. It's great for take out but treat yourself to the dining experience too. It's a beautiful restaurant.

Did you know?

Lots of people don't realize it but we are part of the city of Charleston and as a result, we have police, fire, and emergency service protection provided by the city of Charleston.

And right in the middle of downtown we have a fire station staffed by some of the friendliest firefighters around. So the next time you are strolling around down near the station, poke your head in and say "Hi" and "Thanks" to the brave people who help keep Daniel Island safe. It's great to know they are so close if disaster strikes!

Free Beer on Daniel Island!

Just a quick reminder that there is free beer on Daniel Island on Thursday April 26th at the Pierce Park Pavilion. Free hot dogs too! It's all to highlight a good cause, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Low Country.

Steve is on the board and is helping organize a mixer/kegger to help raise awareness about the organization. He has been involved with Big Bros/Big Sisters for many years and has the cutest little brother named Ford who lives in Mt. Pleasant. Ford is 7 years old and they hang out together, ride bikes, hit golf balls, do guy stuff.

So if you're interested in learning more about the organization or want to become a "Big", please come out to Pierce Park Pavilion between 6 and 8 and ask for Steve. He'll be more than happy to get you a beer and a dog too!

One of my favorite homes for sale on the island

In driving my clients around the island, I see almost every property that is for sale. This is one of my favorites for a number of reasons. It has a beautiful wrap around porch, a stately big tree in front of the property that is gorgeous, and the interior is even nicer than the outside. It was even featured in the New York Times recently when they did a nice piece on Daniel Island. Contact me and I'll be more than happy to send you a copy of the article.

I also like this house because of its inhabitants. Kim and Arthur are wonderful. I am fortunate to call them friends and neighbors. In a way, I would hate to see this house sold as we might not see them as much. I'm sure they would disagree but drive by 62 Woodford St. and wave to them on their porch. And if you want to know more about Daniel Island, there are no better ambassadors than Arthur and Kim. Call me if you would like to see this wonderful home. 843-475-6007

Mother Nature's beauty on Daniel Island

I was just walking to the store today and was so taken by this array of flowers that I ran back home to get my camera. There are a number of flower beds around the island but this was just so beautiful that I felt I had to share it with you. Mother Nature is a beauty isn't she?

A Look Forward

In a small island town like ours, you hear a lot of different rumors flying around. Some of course are fact, some are fiction. These are pretty sure bets - An Irish themed pub is soon to open on Daniel Island. Tentative plans are underway to build a sizable marina near the sales office. A 4 star hotel is planned for the island. A new pool is soon to be added to the Daniel Island Park Club complex. There may be a movie theater coming to DI.

Now don't hold me to any of this as things change but I will try to always keep you updated. Just thought you might want to know . . .
